358 Tall Ts’ung
Slightly tapering, square prism with a thick-walled tubular projection at either end, carve of bluish green and gray stone with buff markings. Straight vertical channels separate eight superimposed units of décor. These units, each of which is divided into two symmetrical halves meeting at 90-degree angles, cover the corners of the prism. Each unit consists of two bands, separated by a narrow, horizontal channel. The wider, upper band is decorated with two incised horizontal lines; two sets of concentric circles on either side of the triangular motif, the lower angles of which end in hooks; and, just beneath this triangle, three short horizontal lines. The lower band is decorated by three horizontal grooves. The corners are worked off carefully, so that the outer wall of the tube is perfectly round. The perforation was drilled from both ends, resulting in an overlap that was not ground smooth. Eastern Chou.
