2005.285: Florence Leyland
PrintsA girl stands facing the viewer. She has light shoulder-length hair with bangs and a round face. She wears a collared, button-up calf-length dress with long sleeves. In her right hand she holds a large hoop. Its diameter runs from about her hip to the floor. The linework in this print is light with long strokes, creating a soft, diffuse quality. Text to the girl’s right reads “I am Flo:.” Whistler’s “butterfly” signature is in the bottom right corner.
