IV - 17 - 79 // Technology for Art / The initially chose them that [strikethrough] which inspired / the choice [strikethrough] selection of artists in the exhibition, "Five / A[ritst].s - 5 T[echnologies].s", was LIGHT, & the way it was / explained to me by Enid Packard & Janet Watkins / (Chairwomen o[f] t[he] W[omen].'s Com[mittee].) & Fred Myers (then director / of G[rand] R[apids] A[rt] M[useum]) reminded me o[f] t[he] A & T & "LIGHT" / shows o[f] t[he] 50s & 60s (notably "Bewogen Beweging," / Stedelijk Museum Amstd., 1961; K[unst]lichtK[unst]; Stedelijk / Van Abbe Ms., Eindh., 1966; ... MOMA...; A& T [?], / LA City Mus., ...). The C.A.V.S., M.I.T., contributed its own version of "those" shows -- "Expl[oration].s", 1970, at t[he] N[a]t[iona]l. / Col[lection]. of F[ine] A[rt].s, the Smithsonian, just organized by G[yorgy] K[epes] / + founding dir. o[f] C.A.V.S., it was uniting works by C.A.V.S. / F[ello]ws & invitees, & it had been meant to become t[he] US con- / tribution to t[he] '69 [?] Sao Paolo Bien. but was enver shipped be- / cause o[f] political protest by "47% o[f] t[he] invited participants / due to a reputation o[f] dictatorship o[f] t[he] Brazil [strikethrough] goverment o[f] / Braz. Gy[orgy]. K[epes]. started the C[enter] i[n] '67 & invited (in chronological order) / Harold T[ovish.], myself, Vassila[kis]. T[akis]. & Jack B[urnham] as a first group o[f] resident art[ist]. f[ello]ws. / - later to be followed by such "technologically inclined" colleauges / as Wen Ying Tsai, Stan V[an]D[er]B[eek] & P[aul].
