Descriptions

Description
Etrusco-Corinthian aryballos in the form of a seated monkey, with the left paw raised to the mouth and the right on the knee. Head, paws, knees and feet are painted brown; the body has brown spots on the buff terracotta ground.
Commentary
Comparable vessels have been attributed to the late Etrusco-Corinthian workshop group "Gruppo a Maschera Humana," active in the 2nd quarter of the 6th century BCE. See János György Szilágyi, Ceramica etrusco-corinzia figurata, Parte II, 590/580-550 a.C. (Florence, 1998) 577-596.
