579 Perforated Oval Plaque with Dragons in Openwork
Bone-colored jade that has largely lost is translucency. The plaque, which has a pointed extrusion below, is surrounded by two dragons in lively postures. The smaller of the two perches at the top; the large one, whose head lies to the right of the pointed extrusion, is partly submerged, the hind portion of his body shown re-emerging to the left of the point. The dragons are carved in relief on the upper side, while on the convex underside they show as incised designs. In other words, they are conceived in the round. Probably Eastern Han.
